Angel Wars

Angel Wars is a new series exploring the War between Lucifer and Michael. It attempts to look at the stories through the twin lenses of natural science and revealed religion.

The first book, Alizel’s Song, was released by Ellechor Publishing House on March, 3rd, 2013.

In the early 2000s I went to a lecture at Cornell by Sir John Polkinghorne, an Anglican Priest and Oxford Physics Professor. He talked about the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle, and what it could mean for God’s ability to influence the world.

This idea had such a profound effect on me, that I decided to use it as one of the central ideas in my novel Alizel’s Song. One of the basic troubles that scientists have with Theism (the idea of a God or any supernatural being) is that they see no mechanism on how such a being would influence the natural world without violating the laws of thermodynamics and cause and effect. Many don’t think that God/angels/souls can’t exist, but rather that they have no bearing on the physical world. What is the mechanism that causes a soul’s desires to be translated to electrical impulses in the brain? None has ever been found.

The HUP, however, provides an interesting solution with an added benefit. Briefly stated, it is impossible to know both the position and momentum of a particle. When one is known more precisely, the other is known less precisely. This is not an indictment of current scientific instruments, but rather a fundamental limit of nature. Another principle of Quantum Mechanics is that electrons can be visualized as a cloud of probabilities, rather than a specific location.

So, if God/angels/souls interact with the world on a quantum level, this interaction will forever be undetectable by scientific inquiry. This is the second benefit. God’s existence will never be proven/disproven by science, thus faith is required on the part of humanity. Alizel’s Song refers to the HUP as a Veil, which is posited as one of the key reasons for the creation of the Universe. In Heaven, all the angels know God, and the service that they give is of a different sort than what is desired from the Humans.

Thus Angelic/Demonic  “visitation/possession” is just another being manipulating the electrons in the brain of a human, causing them to see/feel/taste whatever the other being desires. This is also the way that souls interact with their host bodies.

This concept is developed more in Alizel’s Song and will be further explored in the sequels.
